where have you been?

• LOVELY PHOTOS BY Lauren Jayne Hall

The savvy among you may have noticed I haven't been here very regularly since the summer. I've wanted to explain why for a long time, but the words weren't there yet. Every time I sat down to write, it'd be a struggle, and I'd delete whatever I had written.

I guess now is the time.

autumn instagram outfits!

Despite the fact that I haven't shared an outfit post here in just over two months, I have actually been wearing clothes. Quite a lot of them. And I really liked some of those outfits.

jamaica street stores, bristol.

After visiting Jamaica Street Stores for a second time the weekend just passed, I have even more to say about this new restaurant, nestled in the heart of bustling Stokes Croft, close to the city centre.

city guide : manchester.

Manchester is one of those cities which oozes cool. I'd visited briefly a couple of years ago, and didn't really want to leave! It was so good to have the chance to revisit, see what's changed, and spend some proper time exploring.

Here's my little guide to Manchester.

last days of summer

Summer has come to an abrupt end, so I thought I would sneak in a few snaps taken on my summer holiday down in Devon, and share some of the great things about autumn that we have to look forward to. It's not all doom and gloom, even if it sometimes feels it.

This is an area that I never spent much time in before we started doing shoots at The Forge at the end of last year. It was then I realised how lovely the old, coloured buildings were, as well as the independent shops within them.

caribbean stew : the mother cooker.

There has always been a little group of girls who are important to me in the blogging world - there since the beginning, the originals. Our lives meander through completely different routes, but they're still there (usually on Twitter) and I like to keep in contact when I can.

One of these girls is Gem, who has recently turned her passion for food into The Mother Cooker - which I am certain will make it to book form one day, especially after trying out this recipe!

I'm positive that this is going to become one of those big pot meals that I make again and again.

Four months. It's been four months. I fell out of love, I forgot, I put it on the back burner, the pile of things that I'll get around to later/never. Other things were a priority.

vintage summer stripes.

Hello! Look who it is! It's me - Todd Kraines!*

It's been a long time since I've done an outfit post - a mixture of anxiety, not wearing anything I was particularly inspired by, and not really wanting to have my photo taken means it kind of took a backseat. I've been pestered by a few people to do more fashion here on the blog, so here I am, fulfilling your wishes. I'm so selfless.

my favourite tea.

I, like the rest of the country, love a cuppa. There's no doubt about it. Newby sent me some of their gorgeous teas to taste, and to put a little twist on some of our favourite blends for the hot weather.

3 colourful dip recipes.

This time of year is great for food - so many yummy fruits and veggies are in season! I often find myself wanting to eat fresh things - cool salads etc - but sometimes I get stuck in a rut with them, and they need a bit of jazzing up.

These dips are great accompaniments to loads of meals, or just for dipping a carb of your choice into!

win tickets to bristol zoo's pop-up-festival!

Bristol is just the best over the summer - you can guarantee you'll find something interesting to do every single weekend, and generally that means little festivals all over the city. The zoo is getting in on this action too!

A couple of weeks back, the wonderful Bristol Zoo invited a bunch of lucky bloggers to look around the zoo, as part of their twilight events. Read on to see some sneaky peeks, and to WIN tickets to their pop up festival!

cushion refresh with wayfair.

You know what it's like when you've lived in a shared house for 4+ years - everything is pretty tatty, the walls need repainting, the carpets need replacing, the furniture is a mish-mash of inherited items and things that you just make do with.. sometimes I look at it all and just despair.

Luckily though, there are little things you can do to make it a little nicer.

international picnic day 2017.

Last weekend was International Picnic Day! So during the crazy heatwave we had, I took a few pals and headed for the cool hills and shade of the trees, armed with loads of delicious food from Tesco's new Mediterranean inspired Deli range*.

Read on to see what we thought, and some top tips for packing your picnic.

The weather's heating up again, so it's time to stock your freezer up with tasty treats to keep you cool in this blazing sunshine that will be finally gracing us once again!

I've teamed up with Alpro to show off their fancy new ice creams*! I've come up with three delicious ways to eat it, most of which are 100% vegan. Alpro ice creams contain 30% less sugars than the market reference in ice cream too, so you can eat these without any guilt.. right?

food & fashion challenge in SouthGate Bath.

To celebrate the new restaurants opening in Bath's shopping centre, SouthGate invited me to come and have a nosey, and challenged me to buy a new outfit & have a meal for two for £150.. this is my kind of challenge.

I took my pal Lily along, as we do enjoy a little girldate on a Friday, and we had a lovely time in our neighbouring town (which FYI is also where we first met - cute).

Sometimes you need a chocolate fix, and sometimes you need it in under 10 minutes, lest you hurt someone badly.

Even though we used to often make a chocolate sponge in the microwave as kids as a quick pudding fix when nothing else was in on a Friday night (and my brother and I were probably whinging) I've been a little dubious of mug cakes in more recent years, thinking they'd turn out rubbery.

I was wrong.

The closer I get to 30, the more I look at certain items of clothing and think, "I cannot wear that." - I find myself leaning more towards clean lines, less pattern, and comfort.

Eurgh, that makes me sounds like a right granny, and like I'm saying that you can't wear certain things when you reach 30 - and that's not what I mean at all. It's just the way I'm evolving, and there are many things I put on and feel like I'm a little girl, when really I want to feel my age.

You know when you've lived in a city for about 6 years, and then you discover an amazing gem that you wish you knew about sooner? That's how I feel about the gorgeous botanic gardens that I went to for the first time a couple of weeks ago.

I learnt about plants, I breathed in the warm, sweet air, I made a new friend.

Hello, it's me!

I've never really been particularly happy with my skin - it's uneven, there's a little scarring, large pores, oily.. the list goes on - but generally, I just chuck some make up on and ignore it, never really getting to the route of the problem.

The end of my 20s is looming, and it's starting to sink in that yup, this is the only body you get, and yup, this is the only skin you get, so I should really start to care for it more and make the absolute best of what I've got.

breakfast at pinkmans.

Pinkmans Bakery usually catches my attention with their sour-dough-nuts - the roundest of all time, with different flavour combinations monthly. As soon as you walk in, you're met with a counter crammed full of the most delicious looking bakes.. my mouth is watering writing this.

We tried to go for breakfast a while back, but got there a little too late. This time around, we were there in good time, and it was SO worth getting up a little earlier for.

Friday 17 March 2017

taking time.

I write frequently about the importance of giving yourself time, being kind to yourself, and finding space. It really is integral to enjoying and appreciating your life.

We are always so eager to rush into things, have everything we want right away, the instant gratification.

But there is something incredibly satisfying about easing in slowly and cautiously, putting a lot of work and love into something, and reaping great rewards further down the line.

This goes for relationships as well as work and projects.

There's something about this time of year which makes productivity drop - at least around here. Lately I've been struggling a little with motivation, but I feel like I'm coming out of the other side.

less than.

Maybe it's because it's that time of year that I seem to be constantly ill. The post-Christmas slump - the hangover from eating too much of the wrong things, missing the shiny lights and smiling faces. Maybe it's just January - I usually struggle during these first months of the year, and it's been so cold.

December was a really busy month - the panic-buying of gifts, meeting friends for drinks, dinners, parties - I felt like I barely had time to myself. True to form, I got ill when I stopped for Christmas. Haven't felt quite right since.

hello, 2017.

Happy New Year!

I spent last night at home, and used the last hour of 2016 to reflect on the past year's resolutions and think about what I would like to happen over the next 365 days.
