see you next year!

I won't be blogging again this year! I'm off to Elliott's for about a week, to celebrate some more Christmas, and then New Year! This is the first New Year's Eve I've looked forward to in a long time! My resolutions are pretty much the same as last year, apart from the ones I've completed, obviously!

I'll be back in 2012 with lots of exciting things for the blog and the shop! Until then, stay happy!

favourites.

Just a few photos from my Christmas Day and Boxing Day :) some of my favourite people and gifts - the cats, my Christmas babe (so much love for my little niece I feel like I might explode everytime I see her gorgeous little face!) and my new watercolours!

merry christmas!

Just a couple of photos of what I wore yesterday! As per usual, I'm stupidly busy trying to see everyone, so I don't have much time for blogging! Going to try and do a bumper blog post of photos from my Christmassy days, maybe tomorrow or tonight!

I wore a velvet playsuit from New Look, cardigan from a charity shop, tights from Peacocks, and slippers from Marks & Spencers. My friend Sara did my Christmas nails the other day! :)

Hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday, and got lovely gifts, ate loads and had a generally merry time. I have another Christmas today with my Dad!

christmas pandas.

(Please excuse the paper cut on my finger! Wrapping presents is dengerous!)

Last night, I went to my lovely friend Sara's house for a few drinks and some Christmassy nails. She's become known in our circle of friends for her awesome nail art, so I was looking forward to seeing what she would come up with for my festive nails!

As you can see, she had the brilliant idea of Christmas pandas! The ones on my middle fingers have antlers and a red nose, like Rudolph! They all have their own personality, and no one else will have nails like this! I love them! :D thanks Sara!

sweet.

The past 24 hours have been filled with making ridiculous amounts of gingerbread, ginger oat and sesame biscuits, and teasing El Hefe with the dough. Look how cute and greedy he is!

I'm so happy when I'm baking and surrounded by cats! In fact, I think I'm just a lot happier in general this year. So many good things have happened in 2011 (they far outweigh the bad) and I'm excited to spread the joy during this festive week! Life is sweet.

who run the world..

GIRLS.

Last night, Kayley and I had our favourite girls over for a festive evening of catching up. I dressed almost entirely in red and green, and spent most of the afternoon baking and cooking, and making the living room presentable. I baked the Christmassy spiced cupcakes I made last year, and they went down pretty well! We also made stuffed butternut squash for dinner, and I invented a new Christmas drink involving gin, ginger beer, oranges and spices.

It was soooo lovely to have Charli and Blondie over, and I'm excited to see them again after Christmas for Kayley's birthday. I LOVE YOU GIIIIRRLS!

oh, christmas tree.

On Sunday, Mum and I went to get the tree for her house. Marldon Christmas Tree Farm looked very different to how it did last year when it was covered in snow, but I loved it all the same. I can remember a few years when I felt really bummed out around Christmas, and coming here always always made me feel better. That fact hasn't changed!

After we got our tree, Mum and I went to Cranks at Dartington Cider Press Centre. They do AMAZING food and it's all vegetarian. We had homity pie with salad, and an amaaaazing raspberry and chocolate roulade! (which I think Mum is going to try and recreate for Christmas day! mmmm.... )

The cats looked on as we set about decorating the tree. These photos don't really do it justice. It's so big and bushy! It's one of those trees that doesn't drop its needles too, so it looks really chunky in general. I can't wait to see all the presents underneath it!

artist showcase #8

This week, my lovely friend Tori Elliott is going to tell us all about her work, and what inspires her :) Merry Christmas Tori!

1. Can you give us a little bit of your background?

I was always a bit of a messy painty arty little girl and I don’t think I’ve grown out of it really. I spent a lot of time sticking things together and giving them names. Then ferociously colour them in with crayons. I went to college for my Foundation course (and met you!) where my eyes were widened to so many options and forms of art, and I still don’t really know where I sit comfortably. I studied Illustration BA Hons at Falmouth University and graduated in 2010, and now I spend my days being a bit arty here and there.

2. Did anything in particular make you go into illustration?

I think I chose Illustration because it allows you to do so much. You can be more fine-arty, you can be very traditional or you can be different, and you can lean toward Graphic Design if you so wish. You can do as much as you like in a project, you can produce an entire book with skills in typography or you can solely produce the images. It feels very free. And it isn’t limited to books either.

3. What inspires you?

I spend an unhealthy amount of time on Etsy. I like to collect images in my favourites very much like a Mood Board, you can see mine here. I like to appreciate what’s special about the image, why do I like it? I make a note of these points which enables me to apply them to my own practice. They’re usually the themes of subtle colours, textural difference, and a lot to do with sizes- I have a soft spot for things which don’t quite fit. I have stacks of sketchbooks with pictures ripped out of magazines that inspire me. Much of my work features nature and has an organic feel through pattern and texture; I like to take in the sights and scenes of Devon and the textures and pattern that nature provides us, particularly when out walking my big silly chocolate Labrador. I'm quite an observant person.

4. How do you work?

I find myself with fingers in many pies, I like to knit, stitch, paint and illustrate, print making, mark making and digital work. I like to throw a few together and my style is a bit mixed. I usually assemble my work digitally as I find it easier, but many of the layers are handmade. I made my own paper and textures, and source my own vintage fabrics.

5. What's your favourite medium to work with?

I still favour freehand embroidery, I just haven’t done much for a while! Papercut is also a big favourite of mine, however the company I use to lazer cut is back in Cornwall!

6. Which piece of work are you most proud of?

I think it’ll have to be the work I’ve done for Lou Rhodes from the band Lamb, a book called “The Phlunk”, which is looking at being published in early 2012! It’s about an amazing little cat that can hear everything you do! She approached me in 2010 and we’ve worked on it ever since, watch out for more details on that, check the website here!

7. What are you upto right now?

I’m learning to find myself again, this year I’ve moved out of home and then in with my boyfriend, so my head is still spinning! But I’ve got a nice little studio space at the back of the house, so hopefully much more to come. I’m looking at solo exhibition spaces for late 2012 and am currently working on a few wedding commissions, along with the second Phlunk book.

8. Anything else you think we should know?

Just my details, which are as follows! Thank you Lyzi!

bloggers' christmas party!

Photo from Unlimited by JK.

As per usual at these events, I took no photos. Well, that's a lie, I took one of two toilets in one cubicle. So I've borrowed some of the brilliant photos that some other people took, and I've linked back to you all after each photo! Thanks ;)

It was a really awesome day and evening, including Nandos, beers, getting ready together, cocktails, goodie bags and lots of fun. It was lovely to spend lots of time with my partner in crime, Bee, and to meet up with lots of other bloggers.

I wore a dress from Missguided, little red bow from Poundland Christmas decorations section! And shoes from New look.

I'm not very good at doing write-ups on events, especially ones that loads of other bloggers went to and will write about, so I won't go on for too long. Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who was involved in organising it, especially the ladies from MyStreetChic, thank you to everyone who came, and thank you to everyone who voted for me as most stylish! I love my flowers!
