I've been to a fair few festivals in my time, so I’ve built up my survival kit list and whittled it down again to the bare
essentials. This is what I’ve learnt over the years.
• You
will need baby/face wipes. Always. For everything. You can get little pocket
sized packs now to fit in your day bag, but always take a couple of packs in
your main bag. The cheap ones are fine – these are only 50p from Wilko.
• Someone
will forget their toothbrush and/or toothpaste, so take all the mints.
Apparently, over a third of Brits will not brush their teeth during a 5 day
festival - ew. Do us all a favour and pop one of these share size pots of sugar free
Polo Mints in your bag, to fix that nasty booze-breath and make sure everyone
is happy to dance near you. 80% of single Brits would not dance with someone
again if their breath stinks! *
• Make
sure you have a tin of Vaseline & some cheap glitter – y’know, the stuff
you get from craft sections of shops. You’ll be everyone’s friend if you can
festival their faces up.
• Pack a
capsule wardrobe, in which everything goes with everything, and make sure you
have the practical stuff like a rain mac, wellies, sunglasses etc. You can obviously go a bit more daring than you usually would, especially if you have room in your bag for a lace body like this one from Rokoko, or anything with a bit of sparkle!
• Take
sun protection – even if it’s cloudy, the sun’s rays can harm your skin,
especially if you’re out enjoying the main stage all day. This one is tinted
too, so no need to take foundation!
• Buy a whole bunch of ear plugs if you value your sleep. You’ll need more than one pair
because they’ll disappear down into the depths of your sleeping bag and various
other places.
• A
portable phone charger/power bank is a lifesaver when you’ve lost your mates or
really need to upload that pic to Instagram – these were the things that dreams
were made of when I first started festivalling. If you lost your friends, you
had to meet at a place previously decided upon, or go back to your campsite and
hope that they’d find you!
Unfortunately, I'm not heading to any festivals this year, so please use my wonderful tips on my behalf.
