11 reasons why I like lonely coach journeys.

I often get really stressed out before a journey, but after nearly having a meltdown about my coach being an hour late last Friday, I thought I'd write down all the positive things about travelling alone to make myself feel better. It really worked! And I had a lovely sunny journey up to London.

These are the reasons that I like lonely journeys...

• Picnics on the road.

• The quiet anticipation of where I'm headed.

• The feeling that I could be anyone..

• and that I could be going anywhere.

• Filling my ears with music and imagining the view from my window is the music video.

• Not having to talk to anyone.

• Feeling alone, and liking it.

• Imagining what all the other passengers are like, where they're going.

• Thinking deeply about life.

• Noticing things (the chalky half moon)

• Smiling to myself.

  1. My favorite part of travelling somewhere by myself is drawing closer to myself and to whatever city I'm headed to (or in); there are no distractions from other travel companions and no compromises in where to go and what to see. You can just follow your heart to where you want to go.

  2. I love it because like you said it can make you feel a bit mysterious as the other travelers do not know you!

  3. You have such a lovely, open way of thinking.

I like travelling alone because, like you mentioned, I tend to wonder what other people's life story is, why they might be on the same route, where they're going and who they are. Sometimes just sitting and thinking so many things can make time pass by but I like long journeys so I don't like when that happens.

I always remember Grace Coddington saying not to close your eyes when you're on a journey because you never know what beautiful and inspiring things you may see, so staying awake is a must!

  4. I love journey's on my own - even if I'm driving. It gives you so much time to reflect and think and no one can change the music!!

  10. What a lovely idea and way to stay positive! I myself like travelling alone as well tbh! I love being able to sit and watch the world go past while sitting on the train. And listening to my music. It is definitely a unique kind of feeling!

  11. I can totally relate. When in doubt about traveling I always think about the positives of traveling itself, and we're so similar.

  12. I love driving alone and I'm so glad I'm not the only one who looks out the window imaging life as a music video. It's always so refreshing to journey by yourself and feel the world around you open up. Great post!

  13. The freedom to do whatever, whenever I want! Oh, it's the best. I travel a lot overseas for work and the peace of doing it alone is something else. Even if the place you're travelling through isn't peaceful, no one knows you or is bothering you for anything. Planes can be the greatest joy - no signal, no hassle!

  14. Too many good reasons already listed!
I love to travel alone, or with my boyfriend. I'm not a big fan of group outings. I like the simplicity of travel alone, you only have yourself to please.

  17. I absolutely love lonely coach journeys. It is the one time that I truly switch off. I pop my headphones in and watch the world go by, until I'm almost at my destination then the fear usually kicks back in! x
