an autumnal lounge make over!

How I got to this bright, colourful, put-together space, from this -

I don't really hang out in my lounge much when I'm at home. Apart from just simply enjoying my own company and wanting to relax in my own room, our lounge wasn't the most inviting of spaces. None of us have a lot of time or money to spend making the place look nice, and it is just a mish-mash of cheap or inherited furniture, and a place where we leave random things - Charlie Sheen, a massive plastic box, WD40, a medal... etc.

As with all things, it needed to get messier before it could get better. I only rearranged the furniture slightly (I don't know why that bookshelf was ever so close to that door) and created more space before making it look a bit more homely.

Simple things like getting rid of all the rubbish that was hanging around, hiding the big speaker/amp behind the tv and tidying up the sofas made a really big difference, but I wasn't done yet!

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to choose a range of items from one of George at Asda's new home inspiration trends to help make this room cosy in time for Autumn. I chose the Tundra trend - not just because I loved all the oranges & yellows, but also because I reeeaaally want to go to Canada, and apparently this theme was inspired by the Great Plains.

I chose two yellow jumbo cord cushions, a mark making print cushion, a super soft checked blanket, a fun bright orange pouffe, and a set of bear mugs. I was so pleased how they all came together on our red sofa - I wasn't sure if it would work at first, but I really think it does!

We had a few framed prints on our walls, but there wasn't much thought behind the arrangement. I moved my housemate's big print over to this wall to echo the oranges, and added a few from my collection.

I'd love to put some nice shelves up on the walls & get rid of the bookshelf, add more artwork, make the TV area nicer, have matching (or at least similar) sofas, knock the walls down for more space..... ah, if only I owned my own house and had endless money. My house would be so dreamy!

I would say there's still a heck of a lot to be done to this room to make it how I'd like it to be, but it'll definitely do for now.

What do you think?!

  4. It looks amazing! I love seeing room makeovers, and this one is great, I love how it was basically all done with simple accessories like pillows, throws, and wall hangings--you don't need to revamp everything to switch it up. Also those mugs are sooooo stinking cute.

  12. I think you've made it look so cosy and inviting! Arranging a living room can be really hard, especially in a shared house. My housemate and I spent a lot of last weekend sorting out ours, restringing bunting, tacking up fairy lights and even getting a hammer out to put up some pictures!
