Maybe every 4 or 5 months... The hard drive I had was about 6 years old, and has broken a couple times. Not to mention it was huge, had to be plugged in to the mains, and made a really weird sound while it took 5 minutes to actually turn on.. it was just a nightmare, which really put me off using it.
I was sent this lovely little 1TB G Drive to review for
Tesco Compare Home Insurance – firstly, wowzers, it’s about the size of my hand
(and I have tiny hands) and secondly, you only need to plug it in to your USB
socket on your computer and you’re good to go straight away! Quite a change
from my big old useless box.
There’s no complicated setting-up, just plug it in and start
backing up all your files! I only keep files I need on my MacBook, to try and
free up some much needed space! All my old photos & documents now live on
my mobile hard drive.
You can find more products & ways to secure your home and
contents on the Tesco Compare website.

External hard drives have been my saving grace for so many years now I can't tell you how many times my computer crash. But thankfully I have all my pictures and everything backed up.
