Woops! I forgot about my Barcelona blog posts for a couple of weeks there.. I'm not done with them yet, ohhhh no.
It seems like a lifetime ago now, but my birthday was probably the best birthday ever, mostly because it was just so different to be in another country! We saw it in with sparklers, beers and pastry goods, and then had a nice sleep. When I woke up I got a birthday kiss from Ernesto (the host at our hostel) had some breakfast, opened a couple of cards and presents (including an AMAZING cat money box) and then got ready for the day.
We decided it was definitely a fun shorts day, and I ended up looking like I was just turning 5, not 25. We stopped in the food market on the way down La Rambla, where I blended in rather well in my fruity Lazy Oaf tee! We carried on down to the port, and Doug called me on the way! A lovely birthday surprise to hear from him on the other side of the world.
The aquarium was the first thing on our agenda, as I absolutely love sea creatures! It was a great little aquarium, with loads of awesome fishy things - our favourite was the huge sun fish, which we were absolutely terrified of because we had no idea what the heck it was! We couldn't find any information about it, and only found out once we'd got back to the UK and asked if anyone knew on Facebook!
After all the fishies we stopped in the nearby Fairy Bar and sat in the sun for a little bit, then headed to a place near our hostel for some cake. You can't have a birthday without cake!
I will explain about it in more detail in the "where we ate" blog post coming up soon, but it was lovely inside! It looked like a set from Alice in Wonderland or something, and the cake portions were HUGE! We couldn't eat it all!
We headed back to our hostel to have a little rest and freshen up before going out for drinks and dinner. Unfortunately it had started to rain by the evening, so we had to don our coats, but it didn't dampen our spirits. We went to our favourite haunt, Ra, for drinks and dinner, before meeting our friend Aaron and his friends for some drinks around the corner at Bun Bo and Betty Ford's!
It was a lovely little birthday, and the perfect way to turn 25. And as a little bonus, here's a little video that we filmed on the day... it's mostly of fish and me being awkward. Enjoy!
