On the first afternoon and most of the next day we travelled around on the Touristic buses. We both really recommend them, as they're a really great way to see most of the sights of Barcelona, and you can get a two-day ticket so there's no mad rush to see everything in one day. You can hop on and off the buses at any of the stops which is great.
There are 3 different routes - the blue line heads north, the red one heads to the west where we got a cable car up to Montjuic Castle which was great! It then heads down to the port and the Olympic village, where you can change onto the green line which takes you through a new bit of the city (pretty boring really) and further down the coast to slightly less touristy beaches! You can catch the blue & red lines from Plaça de Catalunya.
Unfortunately, the sea was freezing so we didn't get much further in than our knees, but it was lovely to lay on the white sandy beach listening to the waves. There are a few bars dotted along the beaches too, which is great if you want a beer, but anything more than that is pretty pricey!
I'm just going to leave you with this image of me being totally Baywatch... *cough*
