Hmmmm.... today I turn 27. I love birthdays, but I'm not sure how I feel about this one.
I look around at people my age and so many seem to have such grown-up lives - marriages, houses, babies, careers.. but I don't know if I will ever really want that. I certainly don't want it right now. So why am I putting that pressure on myself?
I'm living in a shared house, which is falling apart around the edges, but it's not my responsibility to fix it. I'm working half at a career and half at a job that can be fun & pays the bills, but I don't want to do it forever. I'm feeling so much better than I have been, but I'm still attending therapy sessions every couple of weeks. A few months ago I broke up with my long-term boyfriend, but now I'm with someone new and I'm very content.
There are always pros and cons to every situation.
I've decided to start keeping a diary of positive things that happen each day. It helps to really acknowledge all the good work I do, the compliments I get, and to have something to look back on when I'm feeling negative about myself.

Hey, what can ya do? We've all got to get older! And as pointed out by my beloved Bee - getting older is a privilege that many don't get to have.
30 suddenly seems scarily close, but I still have 3 long years of fun, love, learning and growing before I hit that milestone.
I'm learning to smile and enjoy life as it is. Happy birthday to me!

Happy Birthday lovely! Such a nice post, i love personal posts and it's okay to not want a mortgage or a baby or whatever 'adults' seem to do/have. Do your own thing, it seems to be working :-) have a great day and eat lots of birthday cake

ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Keeping notes of the good things always helps me. It's the little things we overlook that make a difference.

Aw happy birthday lovely! I turned 27 last month and it is pretty freaky - quite a few of my friends are now married with babies and although my wedding is 3 months away I'm still not quite in that "late twenties" mindset -I honestly thought I'd be way more together at this point, but really I'm not much further forward than I was at like 23! I had visions of me being a proper confident businesswoman, instead I'm the baby of our office and still enjoy acting and dressing like a student haha!
ReplyDeleteI think as long as you're happy in yourself there's no need to succumb to pressures of society, just keep on doing your thing and it'll all come together the way it's meant to! :) xx
Happy birthday!!

Happy birthday lovely lady x
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I turned 25 on Tuesday and that seems like a scarily significant number, but I'm choosing to ignore it and keep on keeping on ;) xo
ReplyDeleteAhhh happy birthday!!!! Hahah it's terrible that I identify with the feeling you described pretty closely and I'm only 21. ;P I think sometimes it's hard when you're not doing what it seems like everyone else your age is doing, but everybody has a different path! :) I hope you have a wonderful birthday!! ❤

Happy Birthday! :D I turn 27 in a month or so and feel very much the same way about it, which is fine by me. Have a wonderful day and year. x
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday! Enjoy the last years of your twenties, it's all downhill from 30! Jokes – I seem to be coping just fine ;) Hope you had a lovely birthday x
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! I also just turned 27, was a pretty scary feeling! I don't know why but 27 seems like such an important age, that one little step closer to the grown up 30! Good luck with everything and keep having fun!

Happy belated birthday. Tell me about it when it comes to all your friends around you growing up. I turn 30 in a few months and a majority of friends are married, engaged, have houses, kids etc. It used to bother me, but I'm so far past that now, as I realised a long time ago that's not the life I want at all. So, as long as you're happy and moving closer to living a life you love, that's all that matters :-) x
