international picnic day 2017.

Last weekend was International Picnic Day! So during the crazy heatwave we had, I took a few pals and headed for the cool hills and shade of the trees, armed with loads of delicious food from Tesco's new Mediterranean inspired Deli range*.

Read on to see what we thought, and some top tips for packing your picnic.

We were treated to quite a spread - everything from lamb & chicken koftas, to feta & herb spinach pastries, to rollitos! I bought a few extras, made a tasty salad, and we tucked in.

The new range will permanently be 3 for £5, and you can mix and match all the delicious packs to suit your tastes. Perfect for picnics, lunchboxes, canapés, or sharing with friends with a glass of wine.

I love meals that consist of lots of different things - variety really gets my tastebuds going. The great thing about sharing things like this is that you can have a little bit of everything - but nothing goes to waste.

We feasted on the pastries, Spanish meats, cheese, bread and salad. Although, the pastries were so moreish, I could've quite happily polished them off myself, if I wasn't concerned about my waistline..

All washed down with my favourite juice (Tesco's pressed apple) and a bit of bubbly. We were all sad to leave the cool grass behind that hot day, and vowed to picnic again very soon.

TOP PICNIC TIPS

• Consider how many people you’re feeding and pack an appropriate quantity. To help keep costs low, look out for mix and match deals, like the three for £5 Deli Range at Tesco. The range has a selection of nibbles which can be served both hot and cold - great for picnics in the park with friends.

• If it’s going to be a hot day, freeze bottles of water the night before. When you’re travelling down to the picnic spot it will keep your food cold, and once you get there you’ll have ice cold drinks.

• Make the most of being outdoors and plan fun games to play. Something as simple as a ball or a frisbee can provide hours of fun. Check out Tesco Living for some inspiration.

• Pack your picnic basket upside down, so the items you need first are the last thing you pack.

• We don’t mean sunglasses, but they’re important too. Try and pop the picnic basket in the shade as soon as you get to your picnic spot. It will keep your basket cool for longer, which in turn keeps your food cool too

  1. I love these deals. We're having an anniversary party in August and snacks like these are always so useful - they look impressive but couldn't be simpler to serve. I do love a stress-free get-together.
