a cosy cabin in the cotswolds.

With this winter dragging on (and set to get colder!) it can be tempting to leave the country for warmer weather. But instead of escaping the temperatures, why not embrace the season with a cosy getaway in the UK?

We'd been to stay at Log House Holidays before (see my blog post about taking time here) so I couldn't wait to head back for another relaxing break. We decided to stay in the same cabin as before, because we felt so at home as soon as we arrived, and it was just perfect for us.

Our cabin of choice is Monty's Retreat - the rest of the 8 luxury cabins are spread out around the lakes to ensure privacy. Each of them comes from Finland and is eco-friendly! Inside the thick log walls is a quiet and intimate den of rooms - in ours there were two double bedrooms, a bathroom with underfloor heating, lounge area with log burner, and kitchen with everything you need.

Outside there's a rocking bench on the porch, picnic bench on the decking by the hot tub, a rowing boat, and a fire pit.

You can add on a few extras if you fancy getting active - bikes, paddle boards and kayaks, to name a few.

We chose to take things a little more slowly (partly because of the weather) and barely left our cabin all week! The year before we did take a walk to a nearby pub, but this time around it had been raining a lot and it was a little chilly, so we opted to stay nice and cosy instead.

Most of our week was spent having lazy mornings, rowing on the lake, watching the birds, cooking delicious food, and playing lots of Scrabble. We spent as much time as we could in the hot tub, and when it wasn't hot enough or it was raining, there was always the bath and our stash of Lush goodies.

The evenings involved a lot of lying on the sofas by the log fire, making s'mores and watching movies. It was so relaxing being away from the real world for a little while.

The sunsets from Monty's Retreat are unbelievable. The sun sets directly in front of the cabin, so there's always a good view across the tranquil waters. I've always thought that winter sunsets are much more beautiful than any other time of year.

If you do fancy leaving the lake, there are some lovely walks, as well as gorgeous chocolate-box towns and villages nearby to explore. I went to Malmesbury & Bourton-on-the-Water a couple of summers ago, and they were well worth a daytrip! You can find more things to do in the Cotswolds here

As the temperatures are plummeting this week, I really wish I was back in that cosy cabin, warming up by the log fire.

It's one of the most peaceful places I've ever been, and I always feel so calm and content when I'm there. I truly hope to return in the years to come.

Head to Log House Holidays for more information.

  1. Looks perfectly cosy! It's nice to escape to a little cabin and take it slow for a few days, especially when it's cold and blustery outside. Sounds like my ideal getaway.

  3. Looks amazing! I was hoping to find a log cabin retreat to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary this year (5th = wood) so I might have a gander at this. Thanks for the recommendation x

We've not stayed at Monty's Retreat, but did my recent human & Hound lookbook there, and I loved it.
    Lovely photos as always! xx
