taking care of number one.

Sometimes that means running a bath and eating cereal. Sometimes it means going for a run or a walk. Sometimes it means doing what will make YOU feel better, and not worrying about what everyone else thinks.

Over the past few months, I've struggled. I feel like I've got bad news after bad news, and although things are starting to look much rosier now, I feel like I'm stuck in a brambly bush of thorns and I can't get out right now. I feel tired, heavy, and hopeless. I can see that things are getting better, but I can't feel it. I'm just so numb to it.

Today, I'm packing up my childhood home. It's an unsettling feeling. Things are slowly disappearing into boxes.

I'm packing away other parts of my life too. Making changes that I hope will make a difference to my happiness.

I keep thinking, "once X is out of the way, I'll start to feel better. I'll know what to do." Well, it's not happened, not yet. I guess sometimes it's a combination of things, practising self care, and slowly slowly gradually I'll come back to myself.

What do you do when you're feeling lost?

  1. Really sorry you've been having a hard time recently. Things have been quite similar for me- just when I thought I was coming out of one crisis another was swiftly on its way- and I found myself juggling dozens of tasks and problems with more stress than I've had in a long while. But I think you're right, taking care of yourself and knowing when to take yourself out on that walk or treat yourself are the most important things. Really hope things get better for you!

  2. It's so hard when things keep rolling down on you.
I'm a really emotional and emphatic being to and last time it happened to me I moved oversea. ( really overseas: now I have been living in Australia for 2 years)
I think that a change of prospective is essential sometime to find yourself again.
And never forget to love yourself!
I really hope that things are going to be better for you soon!

    1. You're so right, sometimes you really do just need a change of perspective - whether that's physically, or mentally.
      Hope you're well x

  3. thank-you so much for this post, although I am so sorry you have been experiencing this feeling. I've found myself in this state a lot lately, so find focusing on the little things can really help. They may seem trivial, but i know buying fresh flowers for my room or cuddling up in a blanket at my desk can really make so much difference. Also, fairy lights! LOTS of fairy lights x

    1. Fairy lights definitely help! Flowers do too - having something beautiful, vibrant and natural in your home is great. Hope things are going a bit better for you xxx

  4. I'm so sorry you've been feeling like this! It's definitely a familiar feeling - I think sometimes it just helps to not think of the bigger picture but just to set a goal to get through the next thing and then the next thing. And at some point you will start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel :) And definitely doing things that make you feel good will help too, as well as eating healthily and having all your vitamins and nutrients :) With of course the occasional chocolate indulgence!

Hope you feel better soon x

  5. Sorry you're having a difficult time. Things will get brighter! A friend of mine recently shared a link to a really helpful article to help when things are feeling rubbish and it was a pretty good read/some helpful advice for when you're caught in the low times. 8. I got out of an abusive relationship a year ago and started suffering from anxiety and depression for the first time. I've also been very much: "One this changes, everything will be better" too. I've found making food really therapeutic for some reason. I've been making chutney and soup and it has an odd way of making me feel better. x

    1. I guess it's the calm process of making food? Something for your brain to concentrate on? Plus, you get to eat the stuff afterwards, which is always good.
