february mini goals.

At the beginning of the year, I shared my two main goals for the year, and a couple of days later told you all about my mini goals for January. Here's how I did with those, and my goals for Feb!

January goals:

• Get back into my sleeping/waking routine - this has pretty much been fixed! We still have the odd late night, but we're both sleeping earlier and waking earlier!

• Start replacing unhealthy habits with healthy ones - I very rarely snack now, so that's one unhealthy habit broken! We've been outside a bit more too, but I still haven't been reading.. oops. I've also started exercising daily, and it's incredible being able to feel myself getting stronger.

• Start looking for & applying to jobs that suit me - I've applied for two dream jobs this month!

• Start saving money - I was lucky at the beginning of this year in that I had a couple of commissions & a cheque left over from Christmas. That means it's been easier for me to kickstart my saving. Watching the money grow is such a good feeling!

• Plan meals - we did one big shop this month... one. Still, I suppose that's better than none, and we did get 4 or 5 days worth of meals out of that. More recently, the reduced sections have been our friends.

• Sell my clothes - after discovering I couldn't sell any of my clothes through Music Magpie (only certain brands, boo!) I extended my blog sale until just before we went to collect more of Doug's belongings. The rest will be donated to charity!

• Give my blog a slight make over - DONE! And I'm so happy with it!

• Plan something lovely for our anniversary - with the help of my blog, we got a night's stay in a lovely hotel in Bath (that's tonight, whee!) which means we get to wake up there on our anniversary & have a free breakfast. Tomorrow evening we'll be off for a meal at The Ox, followed by cocktails at Milk Thistle!

Feb goals:

Find motivation.
The weather & recent struggles have put a dampener on being productive. I'm not sure how to rediscover my motivation, but I'm going to try by easing myself in with things I enjoy, and maybe giving myself a bit more of a routine. How do you find your motivation?

Read a book.
I'm pretty rubbish at reading. I mean, I can read.. but I just get distracted so easily. This month I WILL start & finish a whole book.

Visit london friends.
I've already booked my travel, so now it's just a case of waiting for the weekend in question & organising a bunch of fun things!

• Keep a sketchbook diary.
I made one diary entry to my new sketchbook after a walk in January, and I loved looking back on it so much that I decided I should try and do it every day, or at least a few times a week.

• Eat vegetarian for a week.
Doug recently watched Earthlings, and said he felt weird about where meat comes from sometimes. I thought it'd be a good excuse to eat veggie for a week, and see how it makes us feel (as well as if it makes any difference to our bank balances!)

• Publish an honest blog post about my recent struggles with anxiety.
This is step one of the below goal. I've had this post sitting in my drafts for a week or so, and although I really want to post it to help start a conversation for people with similar issues, something is holding me back. On the 6th of February, Time To Change are trying to spark one million conversations about mental health, so maybe I'll feel a bit better about posting it then.

• Concentrate on making my brain better.
I learnt a whole bunch of stuff when I was having Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, but I seem to have forgotten it. I'm going to refresh my memory with the booklets that I have, and if that doesn't turn my head around, I'll be looking into some more sessions.

• Widen my job search.
I haven't heard back from the jobs I applied to, so I'm going to hunt a little more to find something to make my savings account look even healthier.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

So those are my goals for the shortest month of the year! Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze them all in.

At the end of February, I'll recap on how I've done with these, and ramble on about things I'd like to achieve in what I like to think of as the first month of spring!

  3. Well done on sticking to your January goals, and good luck with February's! I'm also rubbish at reading, I just never seem to make time for it. But have been trying to get batter and my Dad's been helping by giving me his favourite books to read. I've been trying to get through a few pages before bed - it's actually turning out to be a good way to switch off at the end of the day xx

  7. I hope you have a lovely night in Bath, it's an amazing place. Looking forward to reading your post on anxiety struggles as it's something that I have struggled with too and think it would be great for the blogging world to be more open about mental health.

  10. I actually love the whole idea of setting goals per month. It's so much easier to keep up with, and in my opinion, you feel more fulfilled because you get more goals accomplished, then what you would have throughout the year.

I'm glad you had the willingness and motivation to complete some of your January goals, yay!

Also, have fun tonight! Hope it's all worth while. :)

  11. Looking forward to your post on anxiety. I suffer from anxiety myself so I know what you are going through! Have you heard off the Blog For Mental Health pledge? I signed up last week and it aims to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health. There is more information on my blogpost http://calmkitchen.wordpress.com/2014/01/25/blog-for-mental-health-2014/

  12. I find myself quite a nervous person and used to find ordinary things a bit of a struggle. It's weird to say but even though I'm 22 I feel as if I'm 18, sort of a bit delayed! It's crazy how much confidence younger people than myself have though. Working in retail has really helped me and having to make customer announcements and such on the intercom (which I remember used to absolutely terrify me at first). I've still not got the job of my dreams so I think half the time you do have to look into other areas, even if it's not what you had in mind. I think with each job you do it gets a little better and you become stronger with socialising more and learning new things. Interested to see your post speaking of dealing with your anxiety.

  13. I like the idea of these small goals. I didn't want to make any huge goals this year so I made some similar small, year long goals. I liked the recap idea, I did a similar recap for January too. Most of my goals are once a month orientated so it's nice to recap at the end. I like your plans too. Maybe I will try something like this next year.

I need to find some motivation but at the moment I am so far in a hole that I've got none. When you review again at the end of Feb, if you come up with some good motivation ideas I'd love to know.
I have also been thinking about being more honest on my blog and some things that I struggle with. I'm honest in the sense that I am myself, but there are selected aspects of my life I just don't mention. Anxiety is not something I struggle with but I'm aware of the impact it can have on someones life and I imagine the impact is similar to the struggles I have. I would be interested to read your post. Sometimes talking it over with myself or writing it down helps my mind see it in a different way.

  15. Lovely! This is such a good idea, to set small goals for every month. It really gives you time to step back and reflect on what you've accomplished and achieved.

As for motivation, I find setting myself tasks to do in a certain time is helpful. And if I don't finish it, I can either continue because I'm enjoying it and it's not as bad as I first thought .. or stop and do some more tomorrow! Hope that helps in some way :)

  17. You can do it! I find that little things like going for a walk outside when I feel uninspired really do the trick. Or even just going to the corner shop and talking to the shop keep, just getting out of my room is usually the answer for me :) Keep it up!

  18. These monthly mini goals sound like a great idea! I'll try this out. Naturally, we often don't fulfill New Year's resolutions because they're too general and long-term.
