barcelona: gaudi, arc de triomf, etc.

This post is all about some of the touristy sights we went to see in Barcelona. Luckily, our hostel was in walking distance of all of these, so we saved some pennies on travel (which we could spend on coffee/chocolate and churros when we were feeling tired!)
First up, some of the Gaudi buildings. We didn't end up going inside as the queues for all of them were pretty ridiculous, but we went and had a look at them up close. It's on my to do list for next time I visit Barcelona to go inside, as I've heard some great things. They were all stunning from the outside though, so that was good enough for this time around.

From La Sagrada Familia (at the top of this map) we walked down to the Arc de Triomf, passing some interesting things like this monument below. The Arc itself was a beautiful deep red, quite different to the one in Paris. We sat in the Parc de la Ciutadella for a bit watching a man make big bubbles and listening to the birds, had some hot drinks to revive us, and then continued to explore the area.

We stumbled across the Happy Pills shop, but forgot to make a note of where it was! It's a funny little sweet shop that says sweets are medicine to make you happy, basically! It's so cute.

One evening we also went to Museu se l'Erotica (or the Sex Museum to you and me) which was obviously hilarious. I won't post many photos of that because I'm not sure how blog-friendly they are, but here's a couple! It also had a little outside garden where you could sit amongst photos of trees and vegetables that look like certain body parts, and animals having sex. Perfect.

  3. I was at Arc de triomf this weekend. My friends live in the neighbourhood and we spend the two days walking around that area. I live almost 200km from the city but I go visit everytime I can because I LOVE BARCELONA.
If you come back, make sure you go into La Pedrera (Casa Milà). The queue is insane, I know, but the view from the top of the building is amazing!
