crafty creatives!

You've seen beauty boxes all over blogs, but now there's something waaaay more exciting.. the UK's first craft box subscription service!

The other week, this lovely little box of joy was delivered by Mr Postman. After a few months of hints and teasing, the first Crafty Creatives box was finally here! And I certainly was not disappointed.

Scottish sisters, Claire and Isobel, came up with this genius idea. Each box will be themed (this month's theme is florals, yay!) and comes with this handy card to help get you thinking of ideas.

I have loads of fun crafty things in my mind that I want to make out of these bits and bobs, it's just finding the time to sit down and have a good making session now! Hopefully after my Paris trip I'll have a little more time. And I'll definitely share with you all what I make!

Look at all the AMAZING and beautiful goodies in the first box! For £10, I think you really get your money's worth. Sign up to receive box two, here!

perfect picnic.

The weather at the moment, as always, is a little temperamental, but in the rare moments that the sun does shine, I think the best thing to do is rush outside for a little al fresco dining.

Over at the Being Little Shop at the moment there are lots of cute little seperates and accessories that are perfect for picnic-ing in! Flirty skirts, pretty tops, fun headscarves and hats.

Come and take a look at the picnic collection! :)

I've also added LOADS of clothes and accessories to my Ebay shop! I'm moving out on Sunday so I need to get rid of these things asap! Many items new with tags or barely worn, mostly branded, all starting at 99p! Take a look!

simple summer.

Nothing fancy at all today, just an outfit I've worn twice this weekend! No editing on these photos, no scribbly writing, just a straight up bit of simplicity. All dirt cheap too!

Both the top and skirt are items of clothing I bought cheap and altered to suit my needs. The broderie anglaise top was actually a dress from Primark which shrunk in the wash. The top was the best bit anyway, so I chopped off the plain skirt and now I have this sweet crop top with a slashed back!

I came across the skirt while rummaging in charity shops, and was instantly attracted to the tiny floral print! The colours are so soft too. Chucked on my trusty Primark belt, and some flip flops that my mum gave me the other day as they were too small for her!

Perfect for picnics!

Saturday 28 July 2012

As I've briefly mentioned on Being Little and twitter, Ella and I have been planning a trip to Paris. Well this trip is sneaking up very fast (less than 2 weeks away now!) and I've been getting very excited, and trying to decide what I'm going to take.

I've been searching for a white dress for a little while now, to become a summer staple. I kept finding lovely dresses, but they were so see-through, or just not quite right. When Glamorous sent me this sweet dress, I fell in love! It's simple enough to not feel too dressy, but has a gorgeous lace back which gives it a whole new dimension (and shows off my new and improved tattoos! More on that another day)

I paired it with my Urban Outfitters felt hat that seems to go with everything lately (which I got in the sale in the Spring) a thin brown belt from Primark, and wine coloured platforms from Office.

I can't stop looking through my Atget's Paris book, and bought this sweet leather cover for my passport. I couldn't resist the summery blue colour, and it was so cheap from Amazon!

I haven't been out of the country for about 5 years, so I need a little help from you guys out there! I have a few questions that I hope you can answer!

• Do you always use travel insurance? Where is the best place to get it?
• How much money will I need for 5 nights in Paris?!
• What are the must-dos and must-gos in Paris? What can I not afford to miss?
• Do you know of any hidden Parisian gems?
• Any travel advice in general? Things I may not have thought of?

never throw out anyone.

• logic and reason are opposite to love, love is next to loneliness. •

This wonderful book, which I keep getting lost in, was a belated birthday gift from my Dad. I have been spending some time looking through it, finding my favourite quotes. I painted some of them up, and Jazmine commented on how she'd love some of her favourites in gold frames.

You may or may not know that it was her birthday recently, and her super-thoughtful mother organised a surprise cocktail party for her! Unfortunately, I couldn't make it, but I sent her these two quotes below as another slightly belated birthday gift.

I really hope she likes them.

Do you have any favourite quotes?

• quotes below - audrey hepburn, william morris •

artist showcase #11

I haven't done an artist showcase in quite a while! But when Sophie Ingram contacted me, I couldn't say no!

1. Can you give us a little bit of your background?

I am a 22 year old fine artist from Devon. I have just graduated from University College Falmouth and am currently living in Falmouth; job hunting and continuing my art practice.

2. Did anything in particular make you go into art?

I like problem solving; taking ideas and trying to resolve them in a way I find satisfying.

3. What inspires you?

All sorts. The aesthetic of my work is Romantic-I am drawn to old battered objects with histories of their own, often suggestive of a domestic setting, so crawling round junk shops can be pretty inspiring! I love literature -Virginia Woolf and the poets T.S Eliot and Philip Larkin. The veiled way in which poetry connects with the viewer is something I recognize within my own work.

Colour form and pattern are also central to my work. The things I make have simple abstract marks in limited colours borrowed from my surroundings. I am always looking out for interesting colour combinations or formal juxtapositions- for example telephone lines against the sky or the clothes my friends wear.

4. How do you work?

Once I have an idea for an installation, I spend time preparing- by making things and/ or sourcing objects. Then I start arranging and refining the ensemble.

5. What's your favourite medium to work with?

My work is not media specific; it is my aesthetic which makes my work visually consistent. My current body of work is a step away from traditional abstract painting into installation via combination with appropriated ready-made objects. I do however enjoy the immediacy and fluidity of oil paint.

6. Which piece of work are you most proud of?

My degree show. I felt that everything I had been working on came together beautifully.

7. What are you up to right now?

Right now I am developing new work for a forthcoming exhibition I am part of, at Blackall studios in Shoreditch. The work will be a further departure from painting and more into experiential installation. I am very excited about it.

8. Anything else you think we should know?

Check out my tumblr.
Or see my work in London 4th-8th August at Blackall studios, Shoreditch.

Monday 16 July 2012

I've been after some leopard print leggings for a while now, so was very happy when AX Paris sent me these beauties! I originally got them in size M, which was too big, and they've allowed me to use them for a giveaway! More on that in a bit..

I teamed them with a simple slouchy black jumper that I got from H&M on Saturday, with the view that it would go with pretty much anything. It feels really weird having to buy and wear knitwear in July. Sigh.

This is my outfit for being comfy and cosy, working around the flat today, because I really don't want to go outside. I can hear the wind and rain, and I don't want to be anywhere near it.

To win your very own pair of these leggings in size medium (roughly a 12) all you need to do is:

- comment below, including your email address so that I can get in touch if you win! :)

This competition will be open until Monday the 23rd of July, when I will pick a winner at random!

Good luck!

oh, beehive!

Pretty sure I've made THAT joke before.

I swear 1960s fashion has been on-trend for the past few years, or maybe I'm just obsessed with it? Anyway, the always-awesome John Frieda have come up with four new how-to videos, including this awesome beehive above!

For more how-to videos, visit the John Frieda YouTube channel.

Topshop also seem to have been bitten by the 60s bug, and have a gorgeous new collection called Factory Girl, full of things I now NEED in my wardrobe. They also have a cute Sixties Girl make-up set!

Drooling.

ways to wear shorts pt. 2

Okay okay... so the weather hasn't got any better since ways to wear shorts part 1, but it's about time I posted the second part. Besides, many of you might be somewhere where the sun actually shines, and can make use of your shorts..

I was sent this gorgeous sheer shirt from Lavish Alice recently and (after having to send it back twice to get bigger sizes - damn these boobs of mine) I instantly thought of lots of things to team it with! It's so classic and neutral, it could go with almost anything!

There are so many pretty things on the Lavish Alice site, and they're all so reasonably priced! I've got my beady eye on this super cute pastel pink peter pan collar blouse, and this simple blue tail hem dress!

This look is a relaxed, vintage-inspired summer look. Something you can throw on and keep cool, simple and easy!

happy sunshine health boost juice!

I was ill with a horrible cough the other week, and made lovely soothing drinks with oranges, lemons and honey. It was so much yummier than your regular old lemon & honey that your mum used to make when you had tonsilitis.

Then my sore throat went away, and the sun came out (very briefly) and I still wanted to drink this yummy drink.. so I made a chilled version and added echinacea to keep any more colds at bay!

It's really easy, you just need a big jar/bottle/something to put it in, and mix all the ingredients to your taste. Chill it for a bit, and then drink it down! YUM!

c'mon now baby : motel rocks autumn 2012 preview!

Hello my pretty ones, I said I'd be back on Monday, but life got in the way (again!) I've been spending most of my time sorting out all of my belongings and packing them into boxes, ready for my move in 4 weeks! I know it seems like a long way away, but I have a LOT of stuff.

Anyway, for that reason I haven't had anything particularly interesting to blog about.. that was until this beauty landed in my email inbox!!

You've heard me prattle on about how awesome Motel Rocks clothing is, but with good reason. And this Autumn collection doesn't look like it'll let me down! I love the fun vibe of the video above, and below is something that I have my eye on! My playsuit collection is slowly growing (I have 7, I counted today) and I think this one would fit in nicely...

Take a look at the lookbook yourselves! What do you like the look of?

Saturday 7 July 2012

one.

Soooo Thursday was mine and Elliott's one year anniversary, but as he was working, we're celebrating this weekend. I made him this retarded squid (above) and a couple of other bits and bobs. I think we're going to eat some food and go to the cinema today, and then going to see Blink 182 at the Eden Project tomorrow! Excited!

I won't be blogging for the next few days, but hopefully I'll have something for your eyes on Monday!
