happy december!

December is finally upon us and I'm trying to come up with a cute festive playlist to warm me up. Have any of you got any wonderful ideas? What's your favourite Christmas song?

Here's something to get you inspired...

cosy cats.

Today I have been feeling pretty rubbish still, but I wanted to do something nice and festive and cosy. It's not snowing in my village as I'm so close to the sea, but it sure is cold and windy!

I hung out with my cats by the fire for a little bit, and then decided it would be a great idea to listen to this Christmas playlist and make gingerbread animals/hearts.

I used my Granny's recipe, but it makes MILLIONS, so I decided to halve it, and it went a bit wrong somewhere. I don't know how or why, but the dough was too sticky and the shapes ended up spreading/not holding their shape. Oh well, they still taste delicious!! I put chocolate chips in some of them too :) mmmm.

Gingerbread fox loves gingerbread dinosaur.

I'm thinking about doing a cookery video soon... what do you reckon? I've always liked to pretend I'm on a cooking show.. measuring everything and putting it in little bowls before I start, imagining what I'd say, outtakes showing how messy I truly am..?

hiding (and a couple of questions answered)

Hello hello, I'm poorly sick :( I'm hiding out under 2 and a half duvets, heater turned up, daytime TV quietly murmuring, blinds half-closed and tummy rumbling.

In reply to a couple of questions I got in my comments recently -

1. I do not have an online shop just yet, but I'm going to be setting one up THIS WEEK! When I get all my things back from my Christmas Fayre friend. Once it's up and running there will of course be a blog post about it!!

2. A post about how to bookbind sounds like a wonderful idea, and I'll get on it just as soon as I'm feeling better!! Although the run up to Christmas is quite a busy time, so it could end up being after. I'll try my best!

Feeling unwell I'm craving comfort food. Any suggestions of something quick and easy? Preferably nothing I have to go outside and buy, and nothing tooooooooooo unhealthy (although a little bit of stodge wouldn't go amiss!)

Hope you're all keeping cosy!

just be good to me

A reeeeeally brief post mostly consisting of photos as I've got to be out of the house in less than half an hour (it's soooo not gonna happen...!)

These are the things I found in charity shops yesterday - a really nice Zara coat for £7, roomy enough to get a nice thick jumper underneath, but still a size small! I love swing coats. It's also got a massive lush hood! An old worn tshirt for £2 (which I discovered actually has a hole in the side, but oh well!) and some leopard print loafers for £1.

Lovely job, really feeling the deep reddy tones at the moment! I'm off to the Christmas Fayre, seeeeeya!

follow friday #3

This is just a short follow Friday as I need to get on with some more knitting!!

I'm featuring some bloggers who write amazing prose. Here are the links to them and examples of their writings. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

1. Boys Who Blush.
"You forget sometimes, about breathing. About seeing. You forget your fingers, your see through skin, your elbows, and your two hundred and six bones. I've spent so much time forgetting, trying not to see. A whale died a few days ago, a ship struck him and his insides withered away. So close to home, only an hours boat ride from my bedside. You think you can blind yourself to the world by covering your eyes with locks of hair, but the wind will come sooner or later and then you will be windswept, waiting with salt-water stains down your cheeks. I once was petrified, all amber glazed and frozen. The world looks like honey when you've lived inside a stone for thousands of years. I'd rather it looked like milk, like snow that has wept from the branches of wilting evergreens. Can't we just float down the river and count to ten? Will we be safe? I'm afraid if we don't, they'll come. The Takers of Hearts, the thieves with their broken teeth and apple red grins. Do you see them? If you don't draw circles around yourself or breathe softly or I Spy ten moths in one day, they'll come. Look out for long spindly things, they're the Takers hiding behind closed doors, behind trees, behind aitches, ems and double-yu's. I'm trying to remember, to see, I think if I do, they won't come. I don't want to be lost any longer. I'll place myself inside of a book, in hopes that one day you will cry over me and my pages will dampen from the oceans inside of you."

2. Delicate Diaries.
"I feel some sort of detatchment. Loss of enthusiasm like I want to chase everything all away from me. It's so odd that somehow I feel so content with absolutely nothing.. like a brain dead body laying flat on the ground. If I could just move, it's rusty and jolted. Like all my left has flowed into the right and my fingers feel curled in a tight grip. There's some emptyness in content, there's sadness in bliss... Eyes are half closed and the people around me are all just a blur."

3. Thoughts For Birds.
"Remembering will always be a mystery to me, comes swooping down on you like bats -
P., he’d buy two tickets whenever a circus grew out of the field-behind-the-house overnight. Tiny circuses they were, with packs of dogs instead of lions and sometimes even a solitary zebra. But there were cotton candy clouds big enough to disappear in and always someone who‘d turn the crank of his barrel organ with every bone of his body, turn it so gloriously it would shatter you.
Those were the sticky-sweet popcorn days, when I looked a bit like a daisy, when I first got that peculiar feeling of having a heart with a touch of the flu. It grows and grows among your ribs, soaks up all the glossy things and everything else you never want to forget again, it swells and grows and grows until there isn’t any room left, not for matters like words or lungs. And then it bursts, your heart, explodes and covers your insides with crystal grains and rubble. Everything that ever made you feel, scattered throughout your whole artery-web, forever circulating.
(There’s no turning back after the first crushed valve, not even when you are still small enough to only lick the frosting off your candied apple.)"

4. Tree Castles.
"I was trying to put songs, words, whispers, secrets--any possible noise--back into his ears, into his silent wintry body where his bones will quiver the snow and fill the quiet hallways of his veins with the strangest, sweetest melody, where I can unwrap his winter-coated heart with the pockets filled with sticks of brokenness and stones of misery and replace them with tea-stained notes of midnight phrases (sometimes sad phrases, but true phrases nonetheless) and sea-sprayed envelopes stuffed with letters and skeleton leaves, dried petals of narcissuses and roses... I was tyring to shatter the ice cold cage of glass which has trapped his lungs, to melt the icicles inside, look for the stars that have sunk along with my drowned sailor in the shipwreck in the winter seas...
then, awake at last, his tears will flow, his hands will be warm, his heart will sigh,
but he won't remember me.
And I am the mermaid who saved him from his ocean nightmares, and I am his echo in my loveless cave who didn't really save him at all."

Also, I got some more goodies from charity shops today! Including a Zara coat and some leopard print loafers, I love them! The charity shop gods have been so good to me lately.

I have a busy weekend ahead including the Christmas Fayre, a night out with my brother and friends, and a roast and things for a friend who is going to Canada for a while on Sunday, but I have a couple of photos of my new buys that I'll try and put up tomorrow at some point!

Finally, thank you so much to Beth for including me in her follow Friday post! :) and hello to any new followers!

busy busy.

Hello all, I'm busy knitting! So I can't do a proper post.

Just to say if you're in Devon it's the Exeter Westpoint Christmas Shopping Fayre this weekend!!! Would be great if you could pop down.

Finally, I'm very excited about Blink 182 touring next summer, so I had to revert back to my teenage fangirl ways and post this classic video. I'm sure you'll all remember this song!

Have a happy Wednesday!

Love!

prim.

Last week I received a pretty little package from Wallpaper Rose. I love the time and effort she puts into her packages, making each one a delight to open.

I ordered the Jen t-shirt in navy, and it was love at first sight. Cute lace collar, and turned up sleeves - what more could I possibly want?
I ordered the Medium size as I like my t-shirts to be roomy, and it's long enough to wear with leggings. It works equally well dressed down with jeans and pumps, or dressed up with a skirt/shorts and booties. It's SO versatile and makes any outfit ridiculously cute.
I am definitely going to purchase a burgundy one when they're in stock :)

I teamed it with a burgundy cardigan and jeans for my trip to the pub on Saturday, and with my gingham charity shop skirt which I've altered on Saturday. Today, again I have teamed it with the cardie and my mum's old headscarf!

Wallpaper Rose also stocks loads os AMAZING jewellery which will definitely be going on my Christmas wishlist! I've got my eye on the Eleanor Brooch. Such reasonable prices as well. How can you possibly resist?

ten things.

I'm feeling a little under the weather, even after sleeping for what seems like the entire weekend. So I thought this would be a good time to do my "10 things I love" post.

I was tagged by Nicole and Kim who have both done a "10 things.." post. And now it's my turn!

1. Hunting for a bargain.
Not to be confused with Bargain Hunt. I absolutely LOVE charity shops, markets and fayres. Partly because you can find one-offs, but mostly because you can get amazing things for not much money! I love finding things that are totally on-trend, but at a fraction of the price. For example I found a hand-knitted cream cable knit jumper for about £4!

2. Food. I love eating, and I love eating GOOD food. Last night me and Bee were discussing our love for Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall who is basically an incredible chef and somewhat an ambassador for good healthy grow-your-own food. I love finding amazing new recipes, and changing them to suit my tastes. I also have a big love for baking! My mouth is now watering.

3. Bed. It seems rather appropriate right now that one of my favourite things is my bed. You may or may not be aware that I've been suffering from ME/CFS for a number of years, and more recently have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, which means I'm very tired a lot of the time (amongst other things) so bed is very much my friend. It's where I hide from the world, and where I've had some of the best times, and worst times of my life. It's the only place I feel truly safe.

4. Deep colours. This autumn/winter I'm being drawn to gorgeous deep colours like emerald green, navy, purple and burgundy. They make me feel cosy and wintery, and kind of grown up. I'm not sure why, but I like it.

5. My friends. Of course, how could they not be in this list? I feel super lucky to have a core group of friends who I know will always be there. There's my all-time best friend in the world ever, Oli. I think he's kind of my soulmate, we've had a lot of ups and downs but they've just made us closer. Then there are my girls - Charli, Kayley and Blondie. We are all pretty different but we get on amazingly. I've had some ridiculously good times with them.

6. Art and craft. I've always been art-minded since I was tiny. Art and writing are my therapy, whenever anything bad happens in my life I write and write, and often end up making a book about it. It really does help. Sewing is also a big love of mine and I love making/altering my clothes.

7. Late night in-depth talks. It's been a while since I had a really good one of these, but I love it when you really connect with someone and can just talk for hours. I'm not very good at opening up so when I find someone I feel comfortable enough to really talk to, it's pretty special.

8. Second hand. This is slightly different to finding a bargain, because it doesn't always matter if it's cheap. I love finding things which have a lot of history attached. Whether it be a dress, suitcase, tea set, toy or a bicycle - vintage for me is not about trend, it's about the story behind it and the fact that it's been loved before.

9. Music. Currently listening to a lot of sweet girl music. The last playlist I made included Au Revoir Simone, Camera Obscura, Elizabeth Mitchell, Emmy The Great, Kimya Dawson, Laura Marling and Still Corners. I urge you to listen to them all!

10. Cats! Last but not least, my babies. I live with three gorgeous cats - El Hefe, Phoebe and Kimiko (or Heffer, Feebs and Kimi) They're all so different but I love them all SO much. I don't think I could actually live without them. People often joke that I'm going to end up a crazy cat lady, but that's just fine by me! I would love to have more!!

I'm tagging Bee, Katie-Jane, Chloe, Karys, Hiven, and anyone else who wants to do it!

follow friday #2

This week I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite blogs from my "arts & crafts" list.

I know it's somewhat of a cliché, but I literally have been arting and crafting since I could hold a pencil/paintbrush/etc. It's probably my greatest love, after my cats.

Anyway, here are some of the blogs I find inspiring:

1. Anna Emilia. She describes her blog as "a weather diary of colors, wind speed and sounds under feet in my illustrated life." It's truly magical. Each illustration is paired with some gorgeous writing that makes you feel like you're there. I get excited every time there's a new post.

2. Dottie Angel. Surely the queen of craft! Her home is enviable. She posts lots of little tutorials which would aid me on my way to having an equally beautiful home, if I ever got around to it... One day! I promise!

3. Debbie Hill. Everything from baking to knitting to drawing. It's quite a varied blog, but each post is as lovely as the last. I love seeing what she's been up to.

4. Oh My Clumsy Heart. Gorgeous little phrases that tug at your heartstrings. Beautiful brooches and sketchbooks. You really really must have a look.

5. Depeapa. This blog is in another language, so I'm not sure what they're saying! But the drawings are SO cute that I had to include them. Their badges are adorable too!

6. Inside a Black Apple. I NEED one of these kitties more than anything - they put mine to shame! The Christmas cards are lovely too. All sorts on this blog from paintings to dress-up cats to inspiration.

I hope you enjoy these blogs as much as I do!! A feast for your eyes! :)

charity shop haul #2

I'm having a very yellow day, as you will see from the following photos. Please excuse my grumpy face in the first few. I think my smiling silly face makes up for it in the last ones though? I hope so.

(Coat - Asda ; Hat - Topshop ; Top - charity shop ; Bag - charity shop ; Nailvarnish - MeMeMe 65 Demure.)

Here you can see some of yesterday's charity shop finds. I put my hair up and recorded a little video to show you the rest. Here you go:

I'm using flickr to host my photos now which is what I should've done from the beginning really, they're so much better quality! I hope you agree.

Love!
